Cleaning & Check Up

A professional dental cleaning and comprehensive exam is the foundation of excellent oral health. At New York Dental Group, we recommend visiting us twice a year to keep your teeth and gums in peak condition — and catch any issues before they become costly.

What Happens During Your Visit

Your appointment begins with a thorough cleaning by our hygienist, who carefully removes plaque and tartar buildup that regular brushing and flossing can't reach. We then polish your teeth to remove surface stains and leave your smile feeling fresh.

Dr. Im or Dr. Lee will then perform a comprehensive exam, checking for cavities, gum disease, bite issues, and early signs of oral cancer. We also take digital X-rays as needed to see what's happening beneath the surface.

Why Regular Cleanings Matter

Even with excellent at-home hygiene, plaque hardens into tartar that only a professional can remove. Skipping cleanings allows bacteria to accumulate, leading to gum disease, cavities, and — if left untreated — tooth loss.

What to Expect

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I get a cleaning?
Most patients benefit from cleanings every 6 months. If you have a history of gum disease or heavy tartar buildup, we may recommend every 3–4 months.
Does a cleaning hurt?
For most patients, a cleaning is comfortable. If your gums are sensitive, let us know — we can adjust our technique and use numbing gel if needed.
Do you accept my insurance?
Most insurance plans cover preventive cleanings at 100%. We work with Cigna, Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Guardian, and many others. Call us and we'll verify your benefits before your visit.
